Week 5+6

Two weeks have past since my last post.

Meanwhile we left Chiang Mai looking for a perfect holiday spot away from our holiday…. You have to be here to understand. While I’m writing this I’m on an Island in  Ko-hub. To be clear, we found our little paradise, but also on paradise there are digital nomads. So there is a place with fast internet, desks and air conditioning! You can sit inside or on the terrace with a jungle view. Need a break, take a swim in the sea, yes just a little walk on a jungle path and you are at the beach. So we are surrounded by people that don’t have a “home” just travel and work on their laptops where ever they are. Just for today I’m pretending to be one of them.

Our last week in Chiang Mai, we spend mostly hanging out with friends. We went to Huay Tung Tao Lake. It’s about 20 minutes outside the city. This lovely lake with bamboo huts is the perfect spot to be away from the heat. Something completely different was the transvestite cabaret our friends took us to. This was great! It’s a playback show, but at the same time so much more. I really enjoyed myself. All these people on stage were so beautiful. One of them looked like Rihanna!

From Chiang Mai we took a flight to Krabi. After one night in Krabi Town, little fishing town, we went looking for the beach. Took us some moving around in a tiny Tuk-tuk with our luggage but in the end we found a lovely bungalow at Ao Nang beach. Beautiful beach but also very touristic and crowded. We met up with Marco, a friend of my cousin Leon, who runs a travel business there. He hooked us up with a kayak trip and tickets to Koh Lanta. The Kayak trip was perfect. With a guide we went paddling through the mangroves. He took us to a little beach with nothing but two monkeys who came to greet us.

The next day we took the ferry to Koh Lanta. It’s quite a big Island but because of it’s separate beaches it feels small and cozy. We have a room at (here is comes:) Paradise beach! This is at Klong Nin for anyone who wants to know. We are right on the beach and next to the best cocktail bar on the Island. 6 hours per day it’s happy hour!

Yesterday was a special day. We went snorkeling! This is something that has been high upon our list for a while. It was wonderful. A big speedboat took us (and 44 other people…) to 4 small islands close by. The first had no beach, just rocks sticking out the water with trees on top. So we had to just jump of the boat in the water and snorkel. Here some small colorful fishes swam against my face… floating long enough I saw a few bigger purple and striped once. The next Island was a bit bigger and surrounded by coral reef. Here I really enjoyed the snorkeling. So many different types of fish! One spooked me a little because I wasn’t sure whether it was a snake or a fish when it started moving, I did’t stick around to find out. The last Island was again just rocks sticking out the see but this time with a cave. We had to do a swimming polonaise because it was pitch black in the cave and the two guides up front had lanterns. After 5 minutes or 85 m according to the guides we were at the end of the cave and we landed in this “secret” beach in the middle of the island. So amazing, this moon shaped beach surrounded by a few trees and rocks straight up. So swimming is the only way to get to it. More amazing were the hundreds of Chinese that followed through the cave in the next 10 minutes. Not so secret anymore….

Time to enjoy paradise a little more…
